JULIAN SALAS |
| Julian Salas, is a CSIC researcher, Honorary Professor of ETSAM, Director of UNESCO Chair programme in Basic Habitat at the UPM – ETSAM, PhD in Industrial Engineering (1983) by the Polytechnic University of Cataluña, Industrial Engineers E.T.S, Diploma in Industrial Construction by the C.S.T.B. in Paris, and Researcher of the High Council of Scientific Research. In 1983, he founded at the CSIC the research group in Technology and Materials for Low Cost Housing, in which several Latin American architects and engineers worked and developed their expertise. In 1987, he founded and was international coordinator (until 1994) of the Ibero-American programme in Science and Technology for Development (i.e. CYTED), and the sub-programme of technology for social housing interest in Latin America in which 112 groups from 19 different countries participated. This programme was granted the following comment by CEPAL: “…the biggest effort in action-research ever accomplished in public habitat in Latin America and the Caribbean”. In 1989, he started the group Arquitectos Sem Fronteiras – Madrid, which he belongs since then. He is also a member of the International Amnesty and of the Spanish Red Cross. Julian Salas is the author of six books and five monographs, e.g. “Contra el Hambre de Vivienda: soluciones tecnológicas latinoamericanas (Bogotá, 1993) which is now in its 4th edition and was granted the 1st prize at the IV Bienal Iberoamericana de Arquitectura (Lima 2004). |

ÁLVARO DOMINGUES |
| Álvaro Domingues (Melgaço, 1959) is a Geographer holding a PhD in Human Geography by the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Porto (1994). Since1999, he teaches both at the Master and PhD programmes. He is also a member of the Scientific Council. As a researcher of the Centre of Architecture and Urbanism Studies (CIAUD) at FAUP, he has been developing a regular research activity and publications, which involve several institutional collaborations: e.g. Gulbenkian and Science and Technology foundations, CCDR-N and CCDR-C, Xunta da Galiza, Technical Architecture School of Coruña, Erasmus University of Rotterdam- Club Ville Aménagement – Paris, CCB, Barcelona, Technical University of Barcelona- Architecture, Granada University – Urbanism and planning, Federal University of S. Paulo and of Rio de Janeiro-Brazil, Minho and Coimbra Universities, Guimarães and Porto municipalities, Portuguese Architectural Association, Serralves and Youth foundations. At the CEAU-FAUP Álvaro Domingues’ activity is based on research, teaching and consultancy in the fields of Human Geography, Landscape, Urbanism and Urban Policy. |

JORDI BALARI |
| Jordi Balari, (Barcelona, 1936) is the founder of ASF-Spain/ ASF-E in Barcelona. He coordinates the projects in Chiapas with ASF-Italia and Africa’70 (2002-2003), and in Neuquén with ASF-Argentina (2003-2008). At present he participates in the ASF-E as a secretary general, coordinator and International Relation expert, and was its president from 2007 to 2010. Jordi Balari is a co-founder of ASF-International, which presided from 2007 until 2011. In 2010 he created the UIA Work Programme - “Action Without Borders”, which still directs. In 2010 and 2012 he participated in the curriculum design of the “Challenging Practice” modules that aim at informing the ASF-International community practice in development projects. |

NUNO GRANDE |
| Nuno Grande (Luanda, 1966) is an Architect graduated by the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Porto, and got a PhD in Architecture by the University of Coimbra in 2009. He is an Associate Professor at the Architecture Department at the Faculty of Science and technology at the University of Coimbra. Since 2006 he is also an Urbanism visiting scholar at the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Porto (F.A.U.P.). |
